Book Cover

Nana is a stray cat who’s been living on the bonnet of a car, that is until he gets hit and injured by a car. When the cat is painfully injured, he starts calling out for the kind and thoughtful man living in the building near where Nana stays. That man is Saturo Miyawaki.

Saturo Miyawaki is a kind, thoughtful, and sensitive man. He cares deeply about the people around him. He develops friendships on a deep level and sees his friends more as family. He would do anything for his friends, even if it gets him into trouble. Most important of all, because he has so much love to share, he chooses to share it with his cat, Nana.

The book, narrated from Nana’s point of view, can be quite comedic at times, as it gives us an insight into a cat’s personality and how a cat perceives the world. It presents to us how a cat sees itself among other cats and other animals, such as Nana, who was brought up as a stray compared to cats brought up as pets. It also shows the development of a relationship between a cat and human. The book goes on to talk about Saturo’s coming-of-age story as he grows up and goes through life and different friendships as he moves from one town to another, one school to another and explores the excitements of life more and more.
Nana is a proud cat. He has a lot of arrogance, as readers would see, and enjoys showing off. He can also be considered to be a dominant cat. Nana is also, however, a curious cat. He likes to venture off on his own just for the sake of exploring, and that might prove be a good or a disastrous idea. Nana, you would find through reading this book, is like that one friend that would tell you “Let’s go to so and so place,” then at the last minute changes their mind. As the story develops, however, Nana becomes quite fond of Saturo, and develops to become a cat that is unafraid to be attached to a human and is loving.

This book will definitely give you lots of laughs, as it includes many hilarious moments. It will also leave you emotional at times with its heartwarming moments and developments. You might also find lots of wisdom in this story with its philosophical elements and the wisdom of its many characters.

You do not have to be a cat owner or a pet owner to enjoy this book (although that might make you even more excited for it), as this is a book about life, and a boy’s journey through life and his travels with his cat. It’s a story about a boy who is kind and honest and brave. Who would go to no end to be with his friends and to do anything for their happiness.
